The industry is growing due to the high demand for domestic wastewater treatment of businesses and organizations. Currently, there are two outstanding wastewater treatment technologies that are now widely used and highly effective, including SBR technology and AO technology combined with MBBR.
Currently, due to the demand of domestic wastewater treatment of enterprises and organizations is currently very high. So wastewater treatment units offer a lot of treatment options as well as technologies that apply to their treatment systems. Depending on the type of wastewater that has the corresponding treatment technologies, however, there are two outstanding technologies that are currently widely applied and highly effective, including SBR technology and AO technology combined with MBBR. Here we will compare these two options to get a better overview of wastewater treatment technologies.
A question that developers often ask for waste water treatment service providers, when is it possible to apply SBR or AO technology combined with MBBR to match the actual operation of enterprises? and high efficiency as well as ensuring economic efficiency for investors.
The concept of SBR (Sequencing Batch Reactor) technology, also known as aerobic biological sludge technology, is the process of treating wastewater by treating each batch continuously in cycles. This process is encapsulated in an automatic and fully automatic tank. It works on the principle of:
- Filling waste water;
- Provide nutrients (N, P). These components are pumped quantitatively to create favorable conditions for microorganisms that lack air activity.
- The next stage of the air blower works and oxidation occurs to treat organic substances in the waste water;
- Sedimentation stage: Waste water after biological treatment of lack of gas will be left to rest for 1 to 2 hours.
- The waste water will be above and pumped specifically for disinfection tank for further treatment of Coliform, the sediment in the bottom is saved to supplement the deficiency of microorganism in the treatment process.
- Waste water from the collection pit continues to be pumped in and the next reaction cycle is similar. For the improved SBR system, an air gap compartment will be added before wastewater enters the SBR tank to add Nito reduction.
AO technology combines MBBR(Mobile microbial buffer combined with activated sludge and biofilm) operates on the principle of combining organic and N compounds with activated sludge on microbial media. The treatment of organic substances will take place in aerobic tanks with mobile microbiological media. The N removal process that takes place in Anoxic tank and activated sludge will be circulated in addition to the treatment process.
Depending on the construction area, terrain, and nature of each type of wastewater, and with wastewater treatment plants with a capacity of less than 1500m3 / day and night, AO technology combined with MBBR technology is the optimal plan. most because it has the following outstanding advantages:
- AO-MBBR technology maximizes the construction area and tank structure can be adjusted according to the surface area.
- Large load factor.
- High treatment efficiency due to high microbiological density and large contact area because of using mobile microbial buffer.
- Simple operation, automation.
- High synchronization capability;
- There is flexibility in the treatment process for water sources with unstable input quality;
- Low investment and processing costs;
- Good treatment of Ammonium, Phosphate components.
With large-scale systems that exceed 1500m3 capacity, industrial wastewater sources, having a large construction area for SBR technology is more efficient. However, if there is a common drainage system in urban areas, it is necessary to reassess the effectiveness before selecting technology.
