Advantages of SBR technology in wastewater treatment

The research group of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology - Bach Khoa University (Hanoi) studied the influence of mud content on the efficiency of domestic wastewater treatment by batch biological technology ( SBR) and find the optimum sludge content to treat wastewater effectively. 
- The biggest advantage of SBR technology is the handling flexibility. The anaerobic conditions during the loading and mixing stage will help with the reduction of nitrate and phosphor degradation. During the aeration phase, the nitrification process and the absorption of phosphor into the biomass are carried out. The treatment of phosphor in SBR tanks is highly dependent on the amount of organic inputs and the amount of nitrate in the sludge is retained from the previous work cycle. Nitrification, nitrate reduction and phosphor treatment are all closely related to low organic loads for the SBR system. If the organic input content is relatively stable, the organic load will depend largely on the content of the sludge in the reactor.

The study of this group showed that, when the mud content increased from 1,000 - 2,000mg / l, COD and TN treatment efficiency increased respectively. However, the effluent treatment efficiency   decreases as the mud content continues to increase to 3,000mg / l, the higher the sludge content, the more beneficial it is for the bacteria to treat phosphor. Sedimentation ability of the sludge is relatively good, the average sludge volume index ranges from 43-72ml / g of mud content.
